Kirsty Ann Franklin, PhD Student

I am currently undertaking a PhD at the University of East Anglia in collaboration with the Zoological Society of London and the British Antarctic Survey. My PhD is funded by the BOU, and I was awarded the first of the BOU Warham Studentships. For my thesis, I am investigating the 'Drivers of ocean movement patterns in Round Island petrels'.

During my undergraduate studies, I became fascinated by spatial ecology and the ways in which we can track individuals across different landscapes. This, tied with my passion for seabirds (in particular Procellariiformes), has led me to my PhD tracking the Round Island petrel using geolocators.

Prior to my PhD, I spent three months on Skokholm Island as a voluntary assistant warden, assisting with various seabird monitoring jobs and daily census of the island.
